It's really hard to read the tea leaves with the P4. I expect there are things that will look quite good with the dual Rambus channel 850, just as there are things that look good on 840 systems now.
I think my point is that too many people are focused on P4/i850 when the PIII will be the volume product in the Intel portfolio for a long time. P4 will be relegated to the high end, work station segment for some time. This is a relatively small market. (And P4/i850 will take share from PIII/i840).
Intel needs to protect it's space in mainstream PC's, and I suspect there are major resources devoted to that. There are no official announcements on Tualatin or Almador, (other than it shows up in the roadmap), so the sources of info are from third parties that have seen the spec's. Possibly the product may be in process of 133/266 design?
What happens in the PIII space is more important to Rambus right now than P4.
