NEW YORK, Oct 20 (Reuters) - Credit Suisse First Boston on Friday said analyst James Parmelee raised fourth-quarter and 2001 earnings estimates for SDL Inc. (NasdaqNM:SDLI - news), after the maker of optical components that will be acquired by JDS Uniphase Corp. (Toronto:JDU.TO - news) reported third-quarter earnings that easily beat Wall Street's expectations.

For the fourth quarter, Parmelee raised the outlook for SDL to a profit of 49 cents a share, up from 44 cents a share. For 2001, the outlook was raised to $2.50 a share from $2.00.

SDL posted third-quarter results of 45 cents per share, above Credit Suisse's 37 cent estimate and the the First Call/Thomson Financial consensus of 38 cents.

Shares of SDL on Thursday closed at $289-1/8. The company's 52-week high was $460-1/2 and its low $38-13/16.
