York Region Selects ZENON Membrane Technology For New Drinking Water Plant
12:14 EDT Thursday, October 19, 2000

OAKVILLE, ONTARIO--

High-Growth region north of Toronto to install superior membrane technology for drinking water filtration

ZENON Environmental Inc. (TSE: ZEN, ZEN.A) announced today that it will supply The Regional Municipality of York (York Region), north of Toronto, Ontario, with a drinking water membrane filtration system. York Region Council approved the selection of ZENON and its unique membrane technology for the Georgina Water Supply Facility in Georgina County, on the shores of Lake Simcoe. The contract is valued in excess of $5 million.

The Georgina facility will be the fourteenth ZENON drinking water plant installation in Ontario alone. Along with the five wastewater plants ZENON has installed throughout the province, there are a total of 19 ZENON membrane filtration plants in operation or under construction across Ontario.

Under the contract, York Region will close its existing conventional water treatment facility in the Town of Georgina and replace it with a ZENON membrane-based system. The new facility will be built between the Georgina communities of Sutton and Keswick.

Factors considered in the Region's choice of ZENON's proven technology include its expandability, cost effectiveness and smaller footprint (requires less physical space). ZENON's systems can be easily and cost effectively expanded to satisfy projected increased demand. Also, in the event of any water borne parasites, like Cryptosporidium or Giardia contamination, which chlorine alone can't kill, ZENON membranes are the proven technology capable of removing such parasites.

ZENON is a world leader in providing advanced membrane products and services for drinking water purification, wastewater treatment and water reuse.

Chosen as one of Canada's Top 100 Employers, the ZENON group of companies operates from seven locations in North America, six in Europe, and one in each of Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East.

ZENON's products and services are marketed for a variety of municipal and industrial applications through ZENON's offices and representatives located throughout the world.
