re: "bush is the man" - Al Gore's statement about the need for anti-trust action for any company which has more than 70% of a "market" turned me into an anti-Gore activist. If the definition of a "market" can be anything the government wants, as it appears to have been in the MSFT case, than this becomes an open door for government intervention in any large business they want to target. Given the propensity for politicians to "follow the money", this is an open door for the government to lean on the companies with fat wallets. Any sensible person should regard this as a wake up call - the whole trend of Gore's argument is based on the kind of thinking that made "I'm from the government and I'm here to help you" an oxymoron.

One could define AMD as having a 70% share of consumer PC shipments sold at retail, for example. If AMD gets to the point where they are making real money, they could be a target. INTC already has been on the griddle. Suppliers to the industry like AMAT have 70% share. What about AOL? CSCO must be getting close to that share in some of their markets. The list of companies that the government could intimidate based on this policy is almost endless.

I don't know who advised Gore to make a statement like that but I hope it gets the wide play it deserves, and that anyone who believes in free enterprise votes against Gore.
