Charles - peer-to-peer does indeed imply that exchanges occur between individuals. But you are confusing an individual's data context with availability of a particular machine. This is a pretty fast moving area.

A common example in the discussions I have had is "family photos" - it is trivial but outlines some of the issues. Let's say that I have a large store of photos on my home PC which I make available to a circle of friends via a peer-to-peer "publishing" mechanism. I may choose to have a few of those - say the most recent holiday pictures - also be housed on my brother's machine, and he might do the same on my PC for his own "most recent" pictures. If for some reason my machine is down, those friends would just be able to view the subset but the transfer of route would be transparent to them. This idea can be extended in a variety of ways, none of which requires any centralized services or storage.
