Agreed.....but unfortunately it doesn't seem to have a high priority in political debate. I wouldn't consider class warfare to be using reason, for example

The greatest good for the greatest number
That's a killer, albeit noble pursuit. I think I mentioned perception being everything earlier and as long as there is selfishness, the greatest good will be perceived differently. Perhaps a compromise would work better, as in, the greater good.

I'm from Canada where we don't vote for the best man/woman, we vote for the one we hope isn't the worst. :-)
