You know, Lino, I am very concerned about the numbers of non-violent offenders that we incarcerate in this country. As you an I already discussed keeping the truly dangerous criminals in prison, for EVER, in many cases, should be a priority. And getting the nonviolent out and working should be another priority. I know you are Canadian so you aren't paying American taxes (although you are paying Canadian taxes- I realize)- but I don't want to pay for someone to sit on their butt in jail. I am very interested in decriminalizing drugs- since so many of the folks in prison are there for drug offenses. This is a HUGE financial issue, it also has enormous social costs to have so many people jailed- especially if they have children. Yet no candidate ever discusses this. Criminals BAD, ME Tough, that's about all you get from politicians on both sides- and I want MORE. I want a reasonable way to decrease the prison population and I want it done SOON.

Have you ever thought much about this? I'm not aware of what substances are criminal in Canada. Do you also have a large non-violent prison population?
