Darrell - one of my clients has a subsidiary in the UK. They told me they were offered a "special model" server - a "PowerEdge 300" - apparently a version of the "PowerEdge 1300" which is not available outside the UK. This client is headquartered in Switzerland. There, they were offered a "PowerEdge 1300" on a bid, also at a very good price but not as good as the UK price.

This is of course only a single data point and I did not claim "wide spread price slashing" - but even DELL's published server price cuts are cause for concern IMO.
