I think we can all agree that all politicians in tight races simply must embellish and sugar-coat what they are saying. That's why I focus on the records and the truth behind the facades. Those are two winning issues for Gore, and the only ones which should count. SHOULD count but don't as much as they should.

We could do long lists of exaggerations on both sides.
I'll bet they would come out almost exactly even. Such is politics and that will never change.

What this goes to though is Bush campaign's labelling of Gore as a "liar". I heard that two weeks ago over and over from his spin doctors. They want to drum that in. But they really were the ones in the glass house throwing stones. The charge is already boomeranging back at them.

Carter pledged never to lie to Americans and probably kept his promise. He was voted out of office in a landslide even though his character was stellar. Gore's character beats Bush's in my book, but what's kept Bush ahead thus far? Demeanor, swaggering, posing and frat boy cockiness. I'm not surprised that works but will it work on election day? And will voters figure out that behind the swagger there's just not much there?
