I could take any work of fiction or nonfiction and make that same argument. It is as silly (for me) as the fact that some people take the Celestine Prophesy to be such a work even though the author says it isn't.

Before you can get to faith, you have to have understanding. Why should I believe your faith when:

a) I have a philosophy that works,
b) your philosophy seems contradictory
c) it has principles that I don't subscribe to,
d) it is highly implausible
e) requires one to reject reason and to accept it blindly
f) has a terrible human rights record
g) and truths that don't agree with dogma must be ignored

My framing philosophy is basically that of a naturalistic materialism that has elements of animism, Hermetism and those of Zen and Tibetan Buddhism, just so you know where I'm coming from. Buddhism is not a religion, BTW - it is a philosophy - accepting other religions and scientific discoveries as part of The Truth if they are true.
