CC, The main source of extra silver has been india. They have enormous amounts of dower silver and as women get emancipated they sell this silver. India also freed it's gold and silver traders from import restrictions, leading to more trade and downwards pressure.
As to digital....it is getting better and cheaper and once you buy it and have a computer costs are very low. You can also make good prints at a low cost with a printer or share a service bureau printer.
Now as inventory dries up and useage in film decreases how will all these factors work?
Asia has seen film use grow due to throw away cameras, but they are actually expensive per print.
In time people will go ti digital, maybe 80%.
Same for x-ray silver, in 5 years it will be 80% digital(at least in the USA and major tech markets)
