What is being discussed is a common source of confusion.
Wavelength (or lambda) routers are a completely different beast from data (packet) routers. Data packets are embedded within the lambda stream, which is at OC-48 or OC-192 speeds, etc. Both are needed. One does not replace the need for the other. It is important that MRVC investors understand the difference.

Think of wavelength switching as similar to an entire expressway (or freeway for you CA people <g>) lane moving onto another highway without the need to exit and read street signs. After you "exit" though, you have to read the street signs to get "routed" to your final destination.
