SINGAPORE - PSINet Japan Inc. <http://www.psinet.com>, a subsidiary of data communications carrier PSINet Inc., has extended its VirusCheck service to Dedicated Access customers in Japan using technology by Trend Micro <http://www.antivirus.com>, a global provider of enterprise antivirus and content security solutions.
PSINet Virus Check is an optional service which scans e-mail messages and attachments for known viruses and other forms of malicious code, using software and pattern files kept up to date by Trend Micro.
The service was first offered to PSINet e-Mail customers in March 2000.
E-mail VirusCheck forms a protective barrier at the relay station, scanning both inbound and outbound SMTP communications to detect and remove viruses, worms, trojans, hacker agents and other types of hostile code.
PSINet's Virus Check service is powered by Trend Micro's InterScan VirusWall technology.
"This extension of Trend Micro's partnership with PSINet Japan demonstrates the growing demand for antivirus technology as a core component of the corporate Internet service paradigm," said Steve Chang, Trend Micro's president and CEO. "Outsourcing is a fast growing market in Japan and with this type of value-added service offering, PSINet Japan is better equipped to keep its customers safe from the virus plague."
PSINet Japan is a member of Trend Micro's eDoctor Global Network, a group of managed service providers who deliver Trend Micro's antivirus and content security services to their customers through the Internet.
