I teach my kid there are consequences to actions. That IS all there is. One hundred years ago you could teach your kids it was wrong to show their ankles while swimming. If they had looked at the consequences of showing ankles, then they could have surmised that a philosophy that seems silly now, was really silly then too.

If you see that your actions can cause real harm and you should try as a first principle to respect others and express compassion for others, then that morality is universal and timeless. I think this addresses most of your moral concerns if applied.

What is the main difference between a "gang" and a "club"? The charter. The consequences. The actions. You don't need ANY religion in the school to make that distinction.
