ETEC deals into a different market than the stepper companies you mentioned. ETEC will supply the Lithography exposure tools to the reticle/mask manufacturers and not the IC producers. their market is PLAB, DPMI, MASK as well as other mask shops.

Both Canon and Nikon are part of the Japanese Industrial Complex with both of these companies having other core businesses like cameras that they contend with. Their stepper base has a great deal to do with the Japanese market they deal in that they practically own the entire market. Barriers to entry in Japan are extremely difficult for non Japanese companies. This is rampant across all industries. Therefore, Nikon and Canon own the Japanese market and expand from there to the rest of the world. Only because of the superiority of AMAT's product and building of facilities in Japan, does AMAT effectively participate in the Japanese marketplace.
