Steve,

I trust the Merrill Lynch information is accurate and it is probable that they discovered this information via their own research, but I cannot say with confidence that MMC sales to Siemens are actually "channel" sales as Siemens is not a retail customer in the purest sense.

"Our checks in the channel indicate Siemens already represents over
5% of SanDisk revenues only one quarter after shipments have begun."

In estimating the percentage of total revenues sold to this single customer all one needs is the denominator, which is easily derived from the guidance in the conference call (MMC's % of revenue contribution x total product revenues), and the numerator, which can only be known by speaking directly to Siemens or SanDisk.

I see this information as very exciting nonetheless. If Siemens is buying this much product from SanDisk it lends credence to the information I posted regarding MMC licensure. Clearly the Infineon/Hitachi connection would be the most logical source of MMC for Siemens.

That is unless they are busy making ROM MMC and are allowing
SanDisk to be the major supplier of flash RAM MMC.

Here is a May 23rd, 1998 post regarding this issue...

As Eric Jhonsa posted earlier from his direct e-mail from Siemems...

Yes, Infineon will deliver MultiMediaCards to Siemens for the cellphone SL45.
But we cannot comment on other sources Siemens has for the MMC.

And you're right, that SanDisk and Hitachi are also manufacturing MMCs.

I have e-mailed Frank Calderoni regarding the licensing issues regarding MMC and whether this strategy differs from the current CompactFlash licensing (dilemma).
