Actually, Joe, it is a very big surprise that the New Republic would endorse Gore. When Gore worked there, it was a liberal magazine (indeed in the 50's and through Watergate it was the voice of the New York Jewish intelligentsia), but its editors took a very sharp turn to the right during the 70's and they are the very people who coined the phrase "neo-conservative". Carter in '76 is the last Democrat that they endorsed. To go through the list, they endorsed Reagan twice, GHW Bush twice, and Dole in '96. Rather just dismiss the article as predictable, I think you and Neocon owe it to yourselves to read an intelligent analysis of this presidential race by a group of thoughtful people with a propensity to support conservatives who have tormented and struggled long enough to realize that Bush and the Republicans are currently offering some reckless policies. Most of the other conservative contributors to this thread really needn't bother to read it as they probably wouldn't understand some of the big words that are used, and I'm sure they wouldn't want to learn anything new.
