If the merger closes before year end, then when the S&P 500 is reweighted JDSU market cap will be considerably higher and therefore all index funds will be required to buy significantly more. Provided they don't already own SDLI. The argument that funds owning both will have to re-weight could be offset by the percentage required by S&P. I hadn't thought of it till you mentioned it, but I believe this is correct. Pat
