"I hope the nay-sayers catch hell from their clients when it comes time to explain. "What do you mean you thought there was a sector slow-down?" "What proof did you have?" "Did you interview vendors?" "Did you interview carriers?" "Did you interview components suppliers?" "You mean to tell me you based your beliefs on one ISP going into receivership --- and you didn't bother to find out if this was an isolated incident?""

Pat, you sat through the conferences too. Question after question after question from analysts about carrier spending decreases. The analysts were told over and over that it wasn't happening. I sat there with my brother and a close friend and we couldn't believe it. They were trying to trip management up, and were not accepting the answers. Jdsu threw the jolly green giant slide up, showing a smaller giant as the version of optical spending the analysts were predicting, and then the next slide was a HUGE jolly green giant, with peas being fed to it by the optical companies, and this is what Jdsu said they were seeing in the market. "Every September you guys do this," was a direct quote, and "And we haven't seen any evidence of this behavior yet." Totally clear. Way over the line, if they were seeing evidence of any slowdown.

So we go through brutal ups and downs from late March until now, at least as JDSU shareholders, almost entirely based on a story that has flat been made up by the analysts.
