Of course my example was unrealistic - if it were realistic, then I wouldn't have written that analysis itself, because CSCO would be more correctly valued by the market.

Market cap is, in fact, "a potential sale price." In fact, it is a real sale price, in that it represents the price paid by investors on Friday.

To change subjects, GG certainly had respectable sales at retail, and its ideas were widely spread via magazine articles and reviews. There are more "Gorilla Investors" than there are actual readers of the book.

Lastly, "value investing" covers a wide range of ideas, from pure asset investors who actually look at book value (absurd... GAAP "semi-accurately" recognizes the value of an engineer's desk, but totally ignores the value of what that engineer has learned) to guys like myself that recognize that inherent earnings growth capability is an important component of "value". I feel that the various tools that I use recognize the inherent value of future potential.
