Paul, I disagree. I don't think it would've been heresy.

I also wish AMD *had* secured the deal, because the PR would've been worth it.

Intel managed to prevent this, but at some cost to them. Probably better for them to hand over cheap chips than suffer the loss of face, and give AMD great PR.

How this makes AMD a 'Master of American Enterprise' escapes me.

Your excited reply to this sensible explanation suggests you recognize its accuracy. But I'm not sure why you feel compelled to deny that Intel won't be making squat off of these X-box chips... their alternative choice would've been worse, so they did the right thing.
