rudedog: This is precisely why I do not like CPQ. It's like the joke: How many ethnics does it take to screw in a liqhtbulb? Answer "two" One to hold the bulb and the other to twirl the person holding the bulb.

CPQ is saddeled with a DEC workforce, which is in excess from a labor cost perspective for the company.

I don't doubt that this is true however, whether that many support staff are needed vis-a-vis Sun's is another question.

With SUN's system the heavy lifting is done by the enterprise class servers and there is ample strength and scalability built into their OS's and servers, so there is less redundancy, or need for such support.

This is why customers of Sun will pay a higher margin to SUN than to CPQ. Look, for example, how systems which have chips of much lower clock speed get sold by SUNW as compared with CPQ. Customers bottom line like and appreciate the total solution Sun offers with regard to legacy operations, and future growth.
