"conformance with GAAP"

I don't think anyone is accusing Cisco or anyone else with not being in conformance with GAAP. I think the issue is if GAAP should allow this method of accounting as it distorts the true cost of an acquisition. I wonder what Cisco's P&L would look like using Canadian accounting methods. It would be interesting.

One thing I do like about the Canadian method is that when I look at Nortel's P&L I know that I am seeing the true expense of their acquisitions. There is nothing hidden. Someone sent me a PM that said that JDSU is using the same accounting methods as Nortel.

On another note I was visiting some friends who work across the street from another new Cisco complex going in. Wow! I can't believe how big Cisco has gotten sense when I used to do some consulting there years ago. "Cisco City" is what they are calling that entire area now! Impressive to say the least!
