Today's Zogby poll shows Bush plus 4. If Gore gains 1% and it's a 2% lead. Gains 2% and it's tied again. You get the picture. Still a virtual tie with Bush slightly ahead for now. Only the last poll is important though, the final one. and the only states that still count are the toss-up states.

Bush's base is still more energized. Now Gore needs to energize his. Dem's are still being a little sleepy. The liberals and a lot of minority voters are not yet declaring themselves. That worries me. The big push is on now though to get them motivated. Gore also needs to remind upper income voters that his administration is responsible for a lot of their prosperity. And if Clinton can help deliver Arkansas and Louisiana by getting out there in the last few weeks.

I've always said Gore should win by a hair so long as he doesn't blow it. The electoral count including traditionally democratic states is still in his favor. But he has to nab Michigan and keep PA, Wisc, Tenn, NH, Minn and the Northwest. If he wins all of these even by a hair he's in by the smallest electoral margin. Arkansas and Missouri would help a lot too. New Mexico also a dead-lock.

Nader voters coming back to Gore could give him sevreal of the above states in the tighest of races.

A battle royale for those few extra percentage points.

Also don't count out the possibility of an October surprise.
Both sides will do almost anything to win now.

Bush may smile confidently but he's just as terrified as Gore is. Both sides are desperate and cannot afford to make a single mistake. Whoever loses this will really be kicking themselves for the rest of their life because he will know he had it and blew it. But this is going down to the bottom of the ninth inning most likely. Suspenseful!
