Viag Interkom wants UMTS billions back
(ZDNet Germany) - Viag (Frankfurt: 762620.f - message) Interkom requested the Federal Government to return a part of the amount for the UMTS licenses. The chairman of the management, Maximilian Ardelt, said in Frankfurt/Main, UMTS billions would clearly reduce the short and medium-term growth development of the entire industry.
Consequently also the past saying" employment engine -telecommunications " will stumble for some time.

Maximilian Ardelt appealed to the state to limit the alleged damage for the telecommunications industry. The future market " mobile Multimedia " is burdened annually with taxation from six to seven billions. This duty is the direct consequence of the auction procedure for the UMTS licenses. As a result of the " futile attempt by state-owned enterprise German Telekom (Frankfurt: 555750.f) to force one of the competing suitors to surrender" the license fee was driven into unacceptable heights, while none of the competitors could exclude itself from that [bidding].

Therefore, so Ardelt, the Federal Government must return the economically untenable part of the amount of license fee. Thereby, the Viag Interkom boss repeated its criticism he expressed the first time in August : " we already said before the auction took place that we do not regard this auction as the best way. The high costs burden the enterprises and the start of UMTS in Germany will be delayed."

Also, competitor Mobilcom (stock exchange Frankfurt: MOBILIZATION) tries to fetch the output billions back: At present, it has an injunction against the auction mode of the UMTS frequencies checked by neutral lawyers. That indicated firm founder Gerhard Schmid some days ago.

About two months ago t-mobile, mannesmann mobile radio, e-plus, Viag Interkom, Mobilcom and the Spanish-Finnish consortium 3G tendered the licenses of the third portable radio generation for altogether approximately 100 billion Marks (ZDNet reported).

A News report offers current and fundamental to universal the mobile Telecommunication system about UMTS.
