O.T..Barium Enema has the same sensitivity in diagnosing polyps as colonoscopy at 1/3rd the cost and 1/10 the complications such as perforation of bowel and bleeding plus requires no sedation.The prep kit is different also including citrate,suppository ....the key to either BE or colonoscopy is to stay on a liquid diet(clears) for 48 hours prior to the study.....BE and colonoscopy are complimentary tests evaluating the entire colon to the level of the cecum in contrast to sigmoidoscopy which looks at the rectum and sigmoid colon only.
