Tony,

I would hope you'd look around further than just this thread for opinions on things like P4 clock speed potential. Even Foster DP version is looking good for 2 GHz in the first half at 0.18.

Where do you get this stuff? Can you point me to some info suggesting this? (Sharky doesn't count)

I think both P4 and Mustang will face a thermal challenge as they ramp the speed. Petz came up with some scary numbers for power consumption of P4 beyond 1.5 GHz. I don't know how either company will solve it, how far out on the limb will they go. Mustang is more of an unknown that P4, since nobody knows what kind of power reductions was AMD able to deliver.

Also, you should consider reputation of people making these claims. These are the same people claiming that there would be 1 to 2 additional speed grades above 1 GHz P3, and it turns out that 0 additional speed grades are closer to reality. They said they were shipping 1.13 GHz P3s while they were not. They said they would be all Rambus, while secretly working on SDR and probably DDR.

You have been fooled by these people more than once, do you think that this time they will come through? If so, what do you base it on?

Will P4 finally "slam the door"? It's too early to tell. But one thing to keep in mind is that P4 is the last weapon in Intel's arsenal. If P4 fails, Intel is completely defenseless, it will take years to recover, with a painful ride down into the single digits.

There are some rumors that AMD is scrambling to create some extra fab space in Dresden. Do you think AMD is anticipating something that you are not?
