my own favored indicator is the C/C ratio--the number of new posts on G&K "Classic" divided by the number of new posts on G&K "Curmudgeon." The norm is well above 1, especially in good times. But as the market tanks the number of Classic posts dries up and the number of Mudge posts stays the same or even rises, so the ratio falls.
