Nokia'a CEO claims: Two New 3G Customers per Day in the Future

Mr. Ollila predicted that the building of advanced new third-generation networks -- known as UMTS, or universal mobile telecommunications systems -- will start in earnest next year. UMTS will allow for high-speed wireless transmission of data, audio and video.

Operating licenses for UMTS networks were auctioned off in the U.K. and Germany for billions of dollars, prompting investor concerns over whether operators can create profits within the next decade.

"We haven't seen anything yet when it comes to 3G," says Mr. Ollila of the third-generation networks. "We've only scratched the surface. We're in the ramp-up phase but in the next few months we will really start seeing things happening. I'm talking to two new 3G customers per day."
