Re: Ironically like Nuclear Weapons in Soviet Era, Israel is the only common denominator in the otherwise militant, poor and disfranchised Arab World that will be at each other throats, far worse than Kuwait...
This is like blaming South Africa for the terrible problems of the continent....

Well, ironically, the same argument can be levelled against Israel: what does the original kibbutz mindset have in common with Shas? As I said, Israelis revel amidst Arab hostility and right now, Barak's drive towards a national-unity cabinet shows how prone Israelis are to entrench themselves in such a siege mentality. Indeed without the Arab threat, the Israeli fabric might just collapse and end up like Lebanon --the once little Switzerland of the Middle East.... Well, Israel could opt for "the Luxembourg of the Middle East" nickname.

It's long overdue for Israelis to face the music: the original Zionist dream of setting up a safe haven for abused Jews from Europe has turned into a fascistic nightmare wherein the victim's been recast as the torturer....

Besides, who could seriously take for granted that the 5,900,000 Jews living in the U.S. or the 522,000 Jews living in France or the 250,000 Jews in Great Britain (source: Newsweek) absolutely need a fortified police state around Jerusalem.... just in case some anti-Semitic dictator will come around! Hence there's the widespread feeling that the State of Israel is more a front state to vex the Arab world as a whole than a genuine homeland to harbor stray Jews.

Furthermore, I'd even say that the project of a Jewish nation-state is somewhat insulting to your forefathers: discrimination, hardship and ghettoization are part of the Jewish history and therefore they make up Jews' cultural legacy. I mean, a Jew who no longer comes to grips with ostracism is like a Mexican-American parvenu who brags about multiculturalism but who can't utter a single phrase in Spanish! That is not to say that I want the Jews to live like outcasts in Europe, the US or elsewhere but disowning one's ethnic fate may lead to a fool's paradise....

Gus.
