Kyocera Wireless Corp. and Lucent Technologies Announce Collaboration to Accelerate the Global Deployment of Next-Generation Wireless Systems

Kyocera Wireless Corp. and Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU) today announced they will work together to accelerate the global deployment of third-generation (3G) Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) wireless services by closely aligning development of Kyocera's wireless handsets and accessories wyth the latest capabilities of Lucent's wireless network equipment.
The Kyocera-Lucent collaboration encompasses marketing activities, technical support of 3G lab and field tests of wireless devices and interoperability testing to accelerate the commercial availability of Kyocera 3G digital handsets compatible with Lucent's wireless infrastructure equipment across multiple wireless technologies.
As a means to enable Lucent's mobile operator customers to rapidly launch high-speed data and mobile Internet services based on the newest technologies, the companies will collaborate on product development and testing of cdma2000(TM) 3G-1X next-generation systems. In addition, Kyocera and Lucent will pursue joint development efforts for the phased High Data Rate (HDR) solution for the cdma2000 1X-EVolution specification, Wideband-CDMA and other emerging technologies such as position location.
