Doug,

OT

My point was that the US has more assaults, robberies, rapes - well, all violent crimes across the board, not just gun related crimes. Which means that the US has a higher percentage of population that is prone to violence than the other "civilized" countries.

This is after the fact that the US has the highest incarceration rate, up to 10 times higher than many European countries, meaning that the crime rate would be higher if the US was able to jail only as few people as the European countries do.

Don't you think that it would be a good idea to deal with the problem of violent people first? Most states and cities (or demographics) are in fact dealing with this problem, the crime is dropping while the gun ownership rates are unchanged or rising.

assume our legislators are weened off NRA money and get some backbone

I find the whole NRA bashing to be empty propaganda. What makes NRA relevant are the members, not money. Also, the 2nd amendment. (funny how the constitution becomes almost an afterthought)

Notice how the bashers bash NRA, not it's members.
