there is a principle of optimization that is difficult to visualize and model but is probably necessary to explain some evolutionary branches.


There is always a lot of assumptions that living organizms or perfectly suited to their niche, or nearly so. The trouble is that this is seldom, in fact never, true. Creatures have all sorts of limitations based on their history, and not good design. Thinks like our weak backs, and appendix, and inability to synthesise key vitamins. The creatures of earth are not all perfect adaptations, they are adequate for the task at hand.
