obviously a big mistake to open up that can of worms but history is history and rewriting it serves no useful purpose. Yes, there was massive inflation and yes there was a huge oil embargo by the Arabs/Opec in the 70s when Carter was in office. That inflation was caused by the quintupling of oil prices - that is fact. Later Reagan cut taxes and increased spending massively (OK, Congress did it but Congress did his bidding) for things like Star Wars and outspent the USSR and bankrupted them just before our own economy was bankrupted - the national debt quadrupled in the Reagan Bush years and that is fact. He who doesn't learn from history is doomed to repeat it.
