The logistic curve tends to prevent exponential growth rates for sustained periods. But I understand what you mean. It is just that you now have an elegant mechanism making more elegant mechanisms. Modern biology is leaving our former hubris in the dust. Knowing the alphabet of the genetic code is a far cry from understanding the tomes of alphabets working together.

As an example, small-scale cytostructures lead us to believe that there are ion selective linear motors inside cells doing transport. Now that is cool technology.

We are at least 10,000 years away from that type of sub-nanometer fabrication, unless we borrow from biology. But that is like saying that you can make a car because you take the motor from your lawnmower. That is not "making a car". That is fabrication from pre-existing engineering and material science work. It is incremental engineering from the work of others.

I don't doubt that we can use mechanisms already "designed" from the work in genetics within my lifetime, but that is still a long ways from specifying a mechanism that is uniquely ours or waiting for one to design itself.

I don't absolutely believe in animism, so don't get me wrong, and I understand your point. But as a matter of first principles, how does it happen? How does order come from randomness by a process that is completely different than crystallization in that the "crystallized material" has many more degrees of freedom (QM: higher number of available states) than the parts that went into it?
