Good luck on religion conducing to morality! I, unlike Cos, didn't stress consequences, in raising my son, over right and wrong. We were big on right and wrong. He has turned out great, so we must have done something right. Correct, I mean. Doing what's right (societally/morally) can have harsh consequences for an individual, sometimes. That's what makes heroes, I guess.
