Internet Executives More Likely to Have Tainted Past, FT Says

London, Oct. 23 (Bloomberg) -- Internet executives are four times more likely to have tainted backgrounds than their counterparts in other industries, the Financial Times said on its Web site, citing an investigation by Kroll Associates Inc., a corporate security company.

Of the 70 Internet executives and board members Kroll investigated over the past six months, some 39 percent were found to ``have problems,'' including undisclosed bankruptcies, involvement in insurance fraud or links to organized crime, the FT said.

``The whole effort has been to move at Internet speed, which has meant not stopping to do careful checks on employees or putting in place internal auditing or security,'' Ernest Brod, executive managing director of Kroll's New York office, told the FT.

Two California Web site operators were charged last month with misrepresenting the profitability of commodity and stock option trading models they were promoting over the Internet so as to lure customers to their online course.
