TV coverage today.

There was a story about LTK on TV in Utah today. A doctor took delivery of his Hyperion and arranged local TV coverage of LTK performed live as it was the first system in the State. The doctor had arranged to do the procedure on a 60 year old man and his wife. His wife was treated first and was given a card to read immediately post-op. She broke down and started crying she was so happy with her vision. Her husband was next. He was treated and immediately after treatment he looked at his hands, then his watch. Next he was given a card to read. He put the card down and looked up at his wife. Tears started flowing immediately. He said to his wife that he married her 40 years ago in part because she was the most beautiful woman he had ever known. He said that now he could see her again and that she was still the most beautiful woman he had ever known. While the camera was still rolling the receptionist poked her head in and said to the doctor that the phone was ringing off the hook with people wanting to know more about the procedure.

This was a local TV coverage for the doctor in Utah but the piece was picked up by nine other NBC affiliates around the country. It turns out that one was the NBC affiliate here in Dallas and they ran an edited copy of the story during their 5 PM newscast.

I heard the story third hand from two people here at AAO and first hand from someone watching the local Dallas news, and I believe it to be more or less accurate. Give us a few more stories like this in major markets and we will be off and running in a major way in the PR game.
