RE:
Yes, I am afraid of your God, because indeed I did gather sticks for a fire.

"And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day.

15:33
And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation.

15:34
And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him.

15:35
And the LORD said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp.

15:36
And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the LORD commanded Moses."

(Can you imagine the premeditated scheming of the man gathering sticks? Do you think his effrontery was deliberate, or was he unworthy by virtue of being so obtuse? Anyhow, just desserts--THE BASTARD.)

If you read the book of Numbers, you will see that God's strict and clear orders to obey him had dire consequences. Yes, the man picking up sticks certainly knew the seriousness of his sin. In fact, it was so serious that I get the impression it had never happened before:

From Numbers 15 of the Holy Bible:
"While the Israelites were in the desert, a man was found gathering wood on the Sabbath day. Those who found him gathering wood brought him to Moses and Aaron and the whole assembly, and they kept him in custody, because it was not clear what should be done to him. Then the Lord said to Moses, "The man Must die. The whole assembly must stone him outside the camp." So the assembly took him outside the camp and stoned him to death, as the Lord commanded Moses."

The punishment would have been clear if the crime hadn't happened before this event.

The crime was serious.
The punishment was just as serious.
