WaveRider Launches New NCL1155 Wireless Bridge/Router
TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 24, 2000--WaveRider (NASDAQ:WAVC - news; FRANKFURT:WVR.FSE)

Proprietary WaveRider technology delivers 7.5 Mbps

throughput over 10 miles

WaveRider Communications Inc. (NASDAQ:WAVC - news; Frankfurt:WVR.FSE) today announced the launch of its new NCL1155 wireless bridge/router.

The NCL1155 is the first product in the outdoor wireless 11 Mbps bridge category to deliver an actual throughput rate of 7.5 Mbps using spread-spectrum technology.

Each operating component in the NCL1155 system is proprietary WaveRider technology developed at the company's research facility in Calgary, Alberta. Engineered specifically for the NCL1155, the WaveRider components enable the system to achieve industry-leading transfer rates within an 11 Mbps radio channel. As a result of these advancements in radio throughput, WaveRider intends to seek patent protection on several of the NCL1155's system elements.

The NCL1155 is the latest addition to WaveRider's family of outdoor wireless point-to-point and point-to-multipoint Internet access products. The new NCL1155 offers improved radio sensitivity, enabling rapid data transfer over distances of ten miles or more, and is more compact in size. In addition, the NCL1155 offers routing features that give operators greater network management capabilities.

``We believe the NCL1155 stands out in its class as the fastest bridge operating in an 11 Mbps radio channel with the advanced routing capabilities that operators need,'' said Charles Brown, Vice President of Marketing, WaveRider Communications Inc. ``Products such as those comprising our NCL family are gaining increased acceptance around the world from companies looking for fast, affordable wireless technology designed for license-exempt spectrums.''

``The advanced capabilities of the NCL1155 reflect the commitment WaveRider has made to our research and development initiatives. The design of the NCL1155 enables it to be integrated with all of WaveRider's 2.4 GHz ISM band access products, including the Last Mile Solution® product family and other NCL products to enhance the throughput and user capabilities. We anticipate that by incorporating our new NCL1155 technology, we will increase system capacities and reduce net costs for our products,'' added Brown.

WaveRider's NCL family of bridge/routers provides high-speed wireless connectivity for LAN-to-Internet and LAN-to-LAN applications, enabling fast, reliable connections between corporate computer networks, outlying offices, and the Internet. The NCL1155 uses Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) technology and operates in the license-exempt 2.4 GHz band. WaveRider holds FCC and IC certifications for its complete NCL product family.

The NCL1155 will be marketed to businesses around the world through the company's agreements with regional Value Added Resellers (VARs), including TESSCO Technologies Inc, a leading North American technology distributor and reseller.

``By establishing strategic alliances with well known and successful organizations, WaveRider has been able to provide more companies in over 30 countries with the wireless technology they need to get connected to the Internet and improve communications within their operating regions,'' said Brown.
