Alcatel - Majority of a contract of network DWDM of $250 million

PARIS, October 24 (Reuters) - Alcatel (Paris: 13000.PA - topicality ) announced Tuesday to have gained
the majority of an underwater contract of almost 250 million US dollars for the supply of a network DWDM
between Singapore and India for the account of Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) and Bharti
Enterprises.

In an official statement, the French group specifies that this network will be operational at the end of 2001
and that its capacity record of 8,5 Terabit/seconde will enable him to transmit up to 100 million simultaneous
telephone conversations.

Alcatel did not want to specify the exact amount of the contract which returns to him.

Technology DWDM (dense multiplexing in wavelengths) makes it possible to guarantee a very high level
of flow on an optical fibre connection. / WEM
