NTAP--Network Appliance and iPIX Collaborate to Provide Media and Content Delivery Infrastructure
NetApp® Filer Architecture Advances the Capture, Processing, Hosting, and Distribution of Media Throughout Corporations
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 24, 2000-- Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP - news), the leading provider of network-attached data access and content delivery solutions, today announced that Internet Pictures Corporation (``iPIX'') selected NetApp storage solutions to enable advanced media delivery applications for geographically dispersed enterprises.

By utilizing NetApp filers, iPIX enables a broad range of industries - real estate, e-retail, automotive, publishing and entertainment - to access user-submitted auction images as well as iPIX Virtual Tours, which consist of various 360-degree views of properties and objects. iPIX stores both user-submitted and 360-degree virtual tour images - ranging from 50Kb to several hundred kilobytes of data -- all on Network Appliance(TM) solutions. The company has already offloaded over a terabyte of data onto its NetApp filers and plans to have that number double and triple very soon.

``New Economy companies our realizing significant returns on IT investments by expanding their applications portfolios and managing their deployments more intelligently and with greater scalability and reliability,'' said Mark Santora, senior vice president of marketing at Network Appliance. ``We are pleased to be part of the iPIX solution, which demonstrates success by continually improving and broadening their application suites to meet the increasingly diverse demands of its customers.''

``Compiling both immersive and user-submitted images demands that we have an infrastructure in place that can scale easily to support multiple terabytes and require little technology support,'' said Dr. Andrew Mutz, iPIX's senior vice president of engineering and technology. ``Since we are in the business of media distribution, we chose Network Appliance storage solutions because they are easy to deploy and manage, grow as our business grows, and provide the uptime that defines success in our business.''

iPIX is a participant in Network Appliance's ``Powered by Network Appliance'' program, a branding initiative designed to foster business development and enhance the exposure of Internet companies with e-business driven strategies. Network Appliance powers nine out of the top 10 ISPs and 13 out of the top 15 Web sites worldwide.
