Interesting, and useful, break down by Phoenix. I will take the list back to the experts at the NT thread and see what they have to say. I primarily follow the fiber optics side of the business although VOIP has my attention as well.

The only statements Phoenix said that I question was Cisco's #1 ranking in VOIP (I really don't know though).

And his statement that Cisco is the fastest growing fiber optic company is really misleading. When you go from 0 to 1% market share (I am exaterating.. but not much) I guess you can claim 100% growth. When Nortel goes from mid 30's to 43+% it, statistically, doesn't look as impressive but is definitely a much, MUCH, stronger position to be in. And actually growing faster than anyone else in the sector.

I would also be curious as to which of these market segments are in a tornado. I know most of the routing technology is well into main street - except for the high end. Switching I don't know anything about. VOIP I think is headed for a tornado based on the contracts I've seen Nortel start to announce in this sector. More and more telco's are setting up VOIP networks and Nortel has announced several huge deals in this sector. Let's see if NT's cc sheds any light on these sectors and their market position in each.

One HUGE advantage Nortel has is that they can offer telco's a complete solution. Cisco cannot come close to that.
