John, from what I understand this allows many more channels to be viewed,but doesn't allow 2-way internet access. If you read HLIT's TRANscend products,they are giving up to 2-15 mbps/per channel and up to 200 channels. This is significantly more channels,and all you need is a few new headends. It seems that TCI and TWX are using digital compression technology,MPEG-2 to increase the availability of channels over their current infrastructure to mainly middle income neighborhoods where they feel it would be inappropriate and unnecessary to instal 2-way HFC systems. They will only install HFC where they feel they have the revenue streams for advanced services like internet access. This is a half-way move to conterract DBS systems that might be taking customers away. Tim
