Low turnout is normal in mature democracies because candidates are pulled to the center, and there are few matters that are galvanizing at stake.

I have no idea what you are talking about, when you talk about registering to vote as being hard. There are voter registration drives in many states, to take the process to the people, and it is ordinarily no more difficult than getting to the bank to transact business.

John McCain is not the nominee. Seems to me, the mileage was limited.......
