Does anything you have read indicate it was Microsoft's fault, or did you choose to throw out all past knowledge of Sun's failures and your awareness of cluster redundancy/availability to make a wild and almost surely erroneous implication that Microsoft was to blame?

Based on case history, I would not be surprised if E-Bay is under non-disclosure relative to the failure of their Sun systems in exchange for timely service. If that's the case, you won't be reading about it.
