Informix Software Announces Vision For Single Data-Management Platform for Business Applications

MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 24, 2000--

Will Co-Opt Informix Technology and Product Strengths To
Address Converging Demands of Data Management

Informix(R) Software, the database company, a subsidiary of Informix(R) Corporation (Nasdaq:IFMX), today announced its program code named "Arrowhead," its vision for a single database-management system to satisfy the demands of the widest range of business users.

Arrowhead will co-opt the best features of Informix software products and technologies to comprehensively manage complex sets of data across multiple transactional and decision-support environments.

The Arrowhead program will deliver a new product that draws on the strengths of Informix Software enterprise-level servers, including Foundation.2000(TM), Informix Dynamic Server(TM) (IDS), Informix Extended Parallel Server(TM) (XPS) and Informix Red Brick(R) Decision Server (TM), to deliver a multipurpose, high-performance and scalable database-management system (DBMS) that will tackle the converging demands of online transaction processing (OLTP), decision support and object relational-database management in the Internet era. This development will be essential to securing new customers in the emerging e-Business market, which Informix expects to be key to its long-term strategy and growth.

In addition to developing Arrowhead, Informix Software is committed to enhancing and supporting its current database products to meet the needs of customers for whom existing Informix databases are the products of choice. By protecting the significant investments that customers have made in its database products, Informix allows users to move forward at their own pace to develop new applications for changing business environments.

"Arrowhead will bring together the best of Informix software to deliver the most advanced e-Business database solution available anywhere," said Jim Foy, president of Informix Software. "Our Foundation, IDS, XPS and Red Brick products are proven, mission-critical database solutions for thousands of customers worldwide who are core to our business now and for years to come. They collectively represent a tremendous competitive advantage from which to expand our e-Business vision."

Arrowhead will feature the robust functionality of Foundation, IDS, XPS and Red Brick Decision Server to deliver the following:

-- A product that allows customers to meet all their

data-management objectives for scale, speed and simplicity

within a single framework

-- An integrated application server and data repository that

customers can deploy in multi-tier configurations

-- A framework that allows customers to develop information

systems that do not fail and which scale to meet end-user

response-time goals

-- A tool suite that minimizes the costs of managing the deployed

infrastructure and the time needed to solve business problems

-- A deployment environment that offers easy integration with

other data repositories and applications though gateways, ETL

functions, and the support of interoperability standards such

as Common Object Request Broker Architecture, eXtensible

Markup Language, Internet Inter-ORB Protocol, SOAP and

Component Object Model

"Sabre is excited about the Arrowhead strategy," said Brad Jensen, senior vice president of Airlines Planning Solutions for Sabre, Inc. "By combining features of their object relational database with their highly scaleable cluster aware database, Sabre can now put business intelligence inside very large data warehousing solutions."
