It is a requirement of their religion, like the Emperor's New Clothes. They have a social and family network that believes this. They have to believe it or they are rejected by the family or social unit. I suppose the same thing would happen to me if I became a Hare Krishna. My family, friends and coworkers would say "What on Earth has happened to you?" So, as a relativist you have to understand, as I've repeatedly pointed out, that they must believe it or suffer the consequences. The philosophy of external truth and internal truth are mutually incompatible, IMO.
