I remember well when I lived in NYC and worked on Wall Street in the 80's how all the 'pundits' were saying that the Japanese would buy the whole city, and that they buy and hold for their grandchildren so they were different and would never sell... they were very savy. Now THOSE SAME PUNDITS are saying what happened there can't happen here, we're far more savy. In fact some won't even consider a recession a possibility!

Now, it's true our system is far more flexible, and you would expect problems to work themselves out much more quickly... but what exactly does THAT mean? One pondering that question may not come away with a much better feeling.
