U.S. Wireless Data Powers Wireless Point-of-Sale Terminals at the World Series; Yankee Stadium Merchandising Goes Wireless
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 24, 2000--U.S. Wireless Data (USWD) (OTCBB: USWEA), the leader in wireless transaction services, today announced that it is powering wireless point-of-sale terminals at Yankee Stadium during the World Series. Volume Services America, the company that provides food, beverage and merchandise management services for the stadium, is utilizing twenty-two wireless terminals at kiosks inside and outside the stadium to sell merchandise to fans.
At Yankee Stadium during the regular season, Volume Services utilized two wireless terminals powered by Synapse(sm), U.S. Wireless Data's technology platform that enables wireless credit card transactions. They were so successful that the company has implemented twenty more terminals to handle the increased demand during the World Series. Now, more vendors and kiosks will be added to handle the additional traffic and additional merchandise generated by the Subway Series, in a fast and secure environment.
"U.S. Wireless Data's technology enables these terminals to be untethered, which means that they can be placed anywhere that is convenient," said Dean Leavitt, Chairman and CEO of U.S. Wireless Data. "The additional information that Synapse online reports provide will allow vendors to make better management decisions, such as merchandise mix and location of kiosks."
"Due to the sheer volume of people purchasing merchandise, the fact that wireless transactions take 2-5 seconds, as opposed to the 10-20 seconds a landline terminal takes, is a great advantage to making waits in line shorter," said Sonja Thomas, cash manager for Volume Services. "Additionally, we ensure that we minimize our exposure to credit card fraud by processing the transactions in real-time." |
